Andhra Pradesh: Four-Lane Overbridge to be Constructed Between Guntur and Nambur at Cost of ₹108 Crore
Union Ministers laid the foundation stone for the construction of a four-lane road overbridge to replace level crossing gate number 3 on the Guntur-Nambur line.
Under the vision of "New Railway, New Andhra Pradesh," the foundation stone was laid for a four-lane road overbridge (ROB) between Guntur and Nambur railway stations to enhance urban mobility and rail safety. The project was launched by Shri V. Somanna, Union Minister of State for Railways and Jal Shakti, and Dr. Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar, Union Minister of State for Rural Development and Communications.
The overbridge will be constructed at an estimated cost of approximately ₹108 crore, fully funded by the Ministry of Railways. The bridge will span 668 meters and will replace level crossing (LC) gate number 3 located on the Guntur-Krishna canal section of the Guntur-Nambur line. Situated near the inner ring road of Guntur city, this ROB will directly connect Bus Stand Road to Gorantla village. The project requires 2.9 acres of land, and construction work is set to begin soon.
Addressing the event, Minister of State for Railways and Jal Shakti Shri V. Somanna stated that passenger safety and operational efficiency are the highest priorities for Indian Railways. He explained that replacing level crossing gates with modern ROBs and RBs is essential to ensure accident-free transport and punctuality. He noted that the bridge would save travel time and fuel, reduce vehicular congestion, and boost regional socio-economic development. He further informed that 74 railway stations in Andhra Pradesh are being equipped with modern facilities through an investment of ₹3,500 crore.
Union Minister of State for Rural Development and Communications Dr. Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar affirmed that the Central Government is committed to expanding the transport infrastructure of Andhra Pradesh. He mentioned that road and rail projects in the Guntur region are being accelerated through coordination between central and state departments to resolve the traffic issues faced by local residents.
The occasion was attended by Shri Sandeep Mathur, General Manager of South Coast Railway, and Smt. Sudeshna Sen, Divisional Railway Manager, along with Rajya Sabha MP Shri Bashyam Ramakrishna and several local MLAs.
