Asia's First Telecom Manufacturing Zone to be Established in Gwalior; Union Minister and CM Mohan Yadav to Meet Investors in Bengaluru

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT), under the leadership of Union Minister for Communications and Development of North Eastern Region Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, is organizing an investor meeting in Bengaluru. The primary objective of this meeting is to attract investment and strengthen industry participation for the establishment of Asia's first Telecom Manufacturing Zone (TMZ) in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh.

This event follows the success of previous investor meetings held in New Delhi and Mumbai. Through the roundtable discussions in New Delhi and Mumbai, investment commitments totaling 5,500 crore rupees have been secured, which are expected to create approximately 18,000 employment opportunities. The Bengaluru program aims to further enhance this investment momentum by linking the city's robust technology, electronics, and innovation ecosystem with the TMZ initiative.

Major telecom manufacturers, technology companies, electronics and component manufacturers, investors, and infrastructure providers will be invited to the Bengaluru meeting. The discussions will focus on strengthening domestic manufacturing capabilities, fostering innovation, and developing a globally competitive telecommunications ecosystem. The government has also announced an attractive incentive package to increase India's share in telecom manufacturing, which has been designed based on industry suggestions.

The proposed Telecom Manufacturing Zone (TMZ) in Gwalior will be an integrated 'plug-and-play' industrial cluster spanning 170 acres. This zone will focus on the manufacturing and research and development (R&D) of mobile devices, optical fiber, telecommunications equipment, and next-generation 5G/6G technologies.

Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) have been signed between the Central and State governments for the implementation of this project. Under these agreements, the Central Government is providing 100% funding assistance of 493 crore rupees for Phase-I, while the Madhya Pradesh government has provided 170 acres of land free of cost and offered various incentives. A Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) has been created to manage the project, with the Madhya Pradesh government holding 51% equity and the Department of Telecommunications holding 49%.

The government's initiative aims to transform India from being merely a telecom service provider into a global hub for telecom product manufacturing and innovation, thereby reducing dependence on imports and increasing exports.
