Drug-Free India: CBN Rajasthan Unit Conducts Awareness and Cleanliness Drives in Opium-Producing Areas
The Central Bureau of Narcotics (CBN) organized awareness programs for farmers and students across various districts of Rajasthan to mark Gandhi Jayanti and National Drug-Free Day.

The Rajasthan unit of the Central Bureau of Narcotics (CBN) organized a series of awareness programs and cleanliness drives in opium-cultivating regions to commemorate the birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, and National Drug-Free Day. The primary objective of this initiative was to alert local communities and farmers to the adverse effects of drug abuse and to propagate the message of a 'Drug-Free India'.
Under 'Operation Yuva Raksha', CBN Kota organized a special awareness session at Kota University. The event was attended by faculty members and students, including the University Registrar Mr. Muralidhar Pratihar and NSS Head Ms. Shweta. Mr. Naresh Bundel, Deputy Narcotics Commissioner of Kota, addressed the students as the chief guest. He discussed the impact of peer pressure and social environment, explaining the concepts of 'fast mind' and 'slow mind' through examples and videos. He warned that the first use of narcotics can gradually turn into a habit and dependency. At the conclusion of the session, students took a pledge to build a drug-free society.
At the regional level, the District Narcotics Office (DOO) of Kota educated opium farmers about the harmful effects of opium, cannabis, and other illegal narcotics. Similarly, the DOO of Jhalawar organized programs in a village near Babrikhera in the Jhalrapatan tehsil, emphasizing community participation. An event organized by the DOO of Bhilwara on the Sawai Pur-Badala bypass highway saw the participation of hundreds of local residents and opium cultivators.
The DOO of Chittorgarh-I conducted an awareness session and a cleanliness drive under the 'Yuva Raksha and Drug-Free India Campaign' in Menar village of Vallabhnagar tehsil in Udaipur district. Meanwhile, the DOO of Chittorgarh-III highlighted the physical, mental, and social consequences of narcotics in Mangrol village, which was also incorporated into the Gram Sabha proceedings. The DOO of Pratapgarh-II carried out an awareness campaign in Gomana village of Chhoti Sadri, promoting messages of cleanliness and a healthy lifestyle.
Through these programs, the Central Bureau of Narcotics emphasized that the active participation of all sections of society, especially farmers and local communities, is essential for eradication of drug addiction. These activities highlighted the significance of Mahatma Gandhi's birth anniversary on October 2, presenting his messages of self-discipline and social responsibility as a source of inspiration.
