Foot-Over Bridges to be Constructed on Delhi-Saharanpur-Dehradun Expressway in East Delhi; Minister Harsh Malhotra Lays Foundation Stone
Foot-over bridges equipped with lift facilities will be built on the Delhi-Saharanpur-Dehradun Expressway to ensure the safety and smooth movement of residents in East Delhi.
Minister of State for Corporate Affairs and Road Transport and Highways, and Member of Parliament for East Delhi, Mr. Harsh Malhotra, laid the foundation stone for two foot-over bridges (FOBs) on the Delhi-Saharanpur-Dehradun Expressway (NH-709B) in East Delhi. These bridges will be constructed at Geeta Colony/Gandhi Nagar (km 5+100) and Ramesh Park, Laxmi Nagar (km 2+800).
The event was attended by Mr. Arvinder Singh Lovely, MLA of Gandhi Nagar and Chairman of the Trans Yamuna Development Board; Mr. Abhay Verma, MLA of Laxmi Nagar and Chief Whip of the Delhi Assembly; Dr. Anil Goyal, MLA of Krishna Nagar; as well as local councilors and citizens.
Minister of State Mr. Malhotra stated that these foot-over bridges will be equipped with lift facilities, making commuting easier for senior citizens, students, workers, and persons with disabilities. He noted that the Delhi section of the expressway passes through densely populated areas, making safe infrastructure essential for pedestrians. This will reduce the likelihood of accidents between pedestrians and vehicles and ensure that traffic continues to flow uninterruptedly.
In addition to these two bridges, another foot-over bridge has been approved near Bhajanpura, Garhi Mendu (km 10+800). The total cost for these three projects will be 12.8 crore rupees.
Furthermore, Mr. Malhotra shared that the construction of parking facilities beneath the elevated portion of the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway has begun, and work is underway on a beautification plan for the Delhi section of the Delhi-Saharanpur-Dehradun Expressway. Under this plan, public amenities such as electric vehicle charging stations and toilets will be provided to reduce traffic congestion and ensure better utilization of space.
Taking a step toward sustainable development, solar panels are also being installed on the elevated portion of the expressway. This initiative aims to promote renewable energy and reduce carbon emissions in alignment with the target of achieving net zero by 2070.
