India and Netherlands Discuss Enhancing Agricultural Cooperation with Focus on Seed Sector and Innovation
Union Minister for Agriculture Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Dutch Minister Silvio Erkens held a bilateral meeting in New Delhi to discuss agricultural productivity and the exchange of modern technology.

Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, held bilateral discussions with the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food Security, and Nature of the Netherlands, Shri Silvio Erkens, in New Delhi on September 28, 2026. The primary objective of the meeting was to review existing cooperation in the agricultural sector and identify new areas for the future to further strengthen bilateral relations. Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to increasing productivity through modern technology, innovation, and the exchange of knowledge.
During the meeting, detailed discussions took place regarding the progress made toward the establishment of 25 'Centers of Excellence' (CoE) in the agriculture and horticulture sectors. Additionally, both parties agreed to explore possibilities for cooperation in the seed sector. To achieve this, a detailed action plan will be prepared, which will include key areas of cooperation and a clear framework for effective implementation.
While discussing agricultural innovation, both sides identified potential areas of growth and acknowledged the significant progress made by both nations in this field. Issues related to market access were also deliberated during the meeting.
The Dutch delegation included Shri Marten van den Berg, Director-General of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food Security, and Nature; Ambassador Ms. Marissa Gerards, and other senior embassy officials. Representing the Indian delegation were Secretary Shri Atish Chandra, DARE and Secretary of the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Dr. M.L. Jat, along with other senior officials.
