Jammu and Kashmir: Security Forces Neutralize Senior LeT Commander Musa
In a joint operation, security forces have killed senior Lashkar-e-Taiba commander Musa, also known as Asif Fauji, dealing a significant blow to the terror network in the region.

Indian security forces have neutralized Musa, a senior commander of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) also known as Asif Fauji, during an intelligence-based joint operation in the Budgam district of Jammu and Kashmir. The encounter took place in the Gurwatkalan area within the jurisdiction of the Khansahib police station.
Security forces had been searching for Musa for a long time. Based on recently acquired technical and human intelligence regarding his movements and location, all relevant agencies collaborated to devise a specialized plan to eliminate him. This encounter was part of 'Operation Sheruwali,' which commenced in May 2026.
With the death of Musa, the entire group of four senior Lashkar-e-Taiba commanders active in Jammu and Kashmir since 2022 has been eliminated. This group was responsible for several serious attacks, including the Hallan attack in August 2023, the DKG attack in December 2023, the Kandi attack in May 2023, the Shahsitar attack in May 2024, the Shiv Khori attack in June 2024, the Gagangeer and Bootapathri attacks in October 2024, and the Baisaran attack in April 2025.
The other three members of this group had been previously neutralized by security forces in separate encounters. These included Junaid Bhat (December 3, 2024, Dachigam), Suleman (July 28, 2025, Operation Mahadev), and Yasir (September 4, 2026, Operation Asadhar).
According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, this success is a positive result of the coordinated counter-terrorism operations conducted over the past few years by security agencies, including the Jammu and Kashmir Police, the Indian Army, and the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF).
