Meeting of Ministry of Panchayati Raj's Hindi Advisory Committee Concludes, Emphasizes Promotion of Official Language

A meeting of the Hindi Advisory Committee of the Ministry of Panchayati Raj was organized on September 28, 2026, at the Dr. Ambedkar International Centre in New Delhi. The meeting was chaired by Union Minister of State for Panchayati Raj, Prof. S.P. Singh Baghel. The session was attended by the Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Vineet Joshi, Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) Mr. Jai Prakash, and committee members Mr. Ram Naresh Tiwari ‘Pindiwasa’, Dr. Suman Surana, Mr. Vijay Baghel, Mr. Pyare Singh, and Dr. Atira V. Representatives from the Department of Official Language of the Ministry of Home Affairs and senior officials from the ministry also participated in the event.

Addressing the meeting, Union Minister of State Prof. S.P. Singh Baghel stated that the Ministry of Panchayati Raj is continuously striving to empower Hindi both as the official language and as a language of the people. He emphasized that the use of language is extremely important for conveying government schemes, decisions, and critical information to ordinary citizens in a simple and effective manner. Prof. Baghel noted that a language only stays in use when people actually use it, and individuals become accustomed to speaking and writing in it; therefore, every person should work by understanding the importance of Hindi at an individual level.

Highlighting a positive initiative of the ministry, the Union Minister of State mentioned that the proceedings of Gram Sabha meetings are being prepared in 23 languages, including Hindi, through 'Sabhasar'. He stated that due to the ministry's connection with villages, the increasing use of Hindi in its operations is strengthening the promotion of the official language and ensuring that development-related information reaches citizens clearly.

Ministry Secretary Mr. Vineet Joshi stated during the meeting that the ministry is working continuously to comply with the Official Language Acts and rules. He encouraged officers and employees to perform noting and drafting in Hindi to increase the usage of Hindi vocabulary and make people feel comfortable in its application.

During the meeting, Joint Secretary and Official Language In-charge Mr. Rajesh Kumar Singh gave a presentation on the 'Annual Programme' of the Department of Official Language and the directives of the Official Language Policy. He provided information on the efforts made to increase the use of Hindi in government work based on suggestions from the previous meeting. Members of the Advisory Committee appreciated the actions taken by the ministry and provided suggestions to implement the Official Language Policy more effectively. Members also shared the view that since Panchayats are critical units of local governance in rural India, the promotion of Hindi can be made even more effective through them.
