WindEnergy India 2026 Inaugurated in Chennai; India Targets 100 GW Wind Power Capacity by 2030
Union Minister Pralhad Joshi inaugurated 'WindEnergy India 2026' in Chennai and presented a roadmap to achieve 100 GW of wind power capacity in the country by 2030.

Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Education, and Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Shri Pralhad Joshi, inaugurated the 8th edition of 'WindEnergy India 2026' in Chennai on October 8, 2026. Running from October 7 to 9, 2026, this global wind energy conference provides a shared platform for the wind energy ecosystem. The event has seen the participation of approximately 400 exhibitors and 500 delegates from over 20 countries, with special country pavilions established for Denmark, Germany, and Spain. The inauguration ceremony was attended by senior officials from the central and state governments, as well as industry leaders, including Shri Thiru C.T.R. Nirmal Kumar, Tamil Nadu's Minister for Energy Resources and Law.
During his keynote address, Shri Pralhad Joshi stated that India's wind energy sector recorded its highest-ever annual installation of 6.05 GW in FY 2026. He expressed confidence that this record would be further surpassed in FY 2027. The Union Minister informed that by September 30, 2026, India's installed wind power capacity reached 59.20 GW. The government aims to increase this capacity to 100 GW by 2030, enabling India to achieve a position of global leadership in wind energy production and exports.
Tamil Nadu's Energy Minister, Thiru CTR Nirmal Kumar, discussed the state's 'repowering' policy and Tamil Nadu's role in wind energy development. During the program, representatives from various state governments were honored for promoting wind energy by resolving issues such as land accessibility and Right of Way (ROW).
On this occasion, significant international and domestic agreements were announced for technical advancement, including the IWTMA-BWE Global Memorandum of Understanding, the IWTMA-PTB Letter of Intent, and the IWTMA-OECD cooperation. Additionally, two reports titled "Energy Transition in Tamil Nadu" and "Reimagining Contractual Mechanisms for the Indian Wind Energy Sector" were also released.
