₹320 Crore Approved for Kurukshetra ITI Cluster in Haryana Under PM-SETU Scheme
Seven ITI institutes in Kurukshetra will be modernized under the PM-SETU scheme, with Jindal Naveen Avsar Limited serving as the industry partner.
The National Steering Committee (NSC) of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) has approved a Strategic Investment Plan (SIP) of ₹320 crore for the Kurukshetra ITI cluster in Haryana under the Pradhan Mantri Skillling and Employability Transformation through Upgraded ITIs (PM-SETU) scheme. Under this project, Jindal Naveen Avsar Limited will work alongside the Haryana government as the lead industry partner.
Following this approval, the total sanctioned investment for 10 ITI clusters under the PM-SETU scheme has increased to ₹2,491 crore. Shri Jayant Chaudhary, Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (Independent Charge), stated that bridging the gap between ITIs and industries would create stronger employment opportunities for the youth. He noted that the approval of the Kurukshetra cluster reflects a commitment to making skill development more sensitive and relevant to the evolving needs of the industry.
The Kurukshetra cluster will be developed based on a 'hub-and-spoke' model involving a total of seven government ITIs. The Government ITI, Kurukshetra, will serve as the 'Hub ITI.' Meanwhile, the Government Women's ITI (Kurukshetra), Government ITI (Kaithal), Government Women's ITI (Kaithal), Government ITI (Pehowa), Government ITI (Pabnawa), and Government Women's ITI (Ambala City) will function as 'Spoke ITIs.'
The ₹320 crore investment will be utilized to strengthen infrastructure, modernize training facilities, introduce industry-based curricula, and ensure better employment outcomes for trainees. As the industry partner, Jindal Naveen Avsar Limited will play a central role in curriculum development, training, apprenticeship, and placement assistance. Notably, the company is already associated with a ₹240 crore plan for the Barbil ITI cluster in Odisha.
PM-SETU is a major initiative of the Government of India with a total outlay of ₹60,000 crore. The scheme aims to modernize a total of 1,000 government ITIs across the country, including 200 hub and 800 spoke ITIs. Additionally, the plan provides for increasing the capacity of five National Skill Training Institutes (NSTIs) and establishing sector-specific National Centers of Excellence.
