Department of Fertilizers Organizes 'Swachhata Hi Seva' Campaign 2026, Emphasizing Innovation Through 'Waste to Art'
The Department of Fertilizers is conducting the 'Swachhata Hi Seva' campaign from September 17 to October 2, encouraging employees to create artworks from waste.
A high-level review meeting was held to accelerate the 'Swachhata Hi Seva' (SHS) Campaign – 2026, which is being conducted by the Department of Fertilizers from September 17 to October 2. The meeting was chaired by Mr. Kuntal Sen Sharma, Senior Economic Advisor to the Department of Fertilizers. The session was attended by senior officials of the department, representatives of the Fertilizer Industry Coordination Committee (FICC), top management from Fertilizer Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs), cooperatives, joint ventures, and private fertilizer companies, as well as plant heads and designated Swachhata Nodal Officers.
The primary objective of this review meeting was to assess the impact of the campaign's initial phase and to engage officials, employees, and the general public in the cleanliness drive. The Senior Economic Advisor emphasized the full implementation of 11 designated activities based on five main pillars.
The five key pillars of the campaign are as follows:
Swachhata Hi Seva: Conducting thorough cleaning and beautification of office premises, workplaces, residential colonies, and sites of public importance.
Waste to Art: Transforming industrial and office waste into useful and artistic items to promote a circular economy. The department has instructed all affiliated companies to submit their creative entries by September 28.
Sports and Sportsmanship: Organizing fitness competitions for employees and their families to promote team spirit, discipline, and health.
Dialogue: Proposed organization of seminars and public awareness sessions on topics such as water conservation, environmental protection, and the preservation of nature.
Knowledge Journey: Organizing rallies involving youth and local residents to spread the message of environmental safety.
Special instructions were issued during the meeting for the nationwide Maha-Shramdan to be held on October 1, 2026. Under the 'One Day, One Hour, Together' initiative, personnel from all fertilizer undertakings, plants, and regional offices will collectively participate in cleanliness labor.
Furthermore, 'cleanliness audits' are being conducted by senior officials, and suggestions are being sought from personnel through the 'One Suggestion Towards Swachhata' initiative. To ensure transparency, all units have been directed to upload photos, videos, and statistics of daily activities on the 'SHS-2026 Portal' and maintain coordination through official WhatsApp groups. This data will serve as the basis for national-level review and reporting.
