Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Official Visit to Qatar for AIIB Annual Meeting
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will visit Qatar from September 27 to 29, 2026, to participate in the 11th Annual Meeting of the AIIB Board of Governors.
Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs, Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman, will be on an official visit to Qatar from September 27 to 29, 2026. During this visit, the Finance Minister is leading a delegation of officials from the Ministry of Finance.
As part of the primary itinerary of the visit, Smt. Sitharaman will participate in the 11th Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), scheduled to be held in Doha on September 28, 2026. She will attend the meeting in her capacity as the Indian Governor of the AIIB. It is notable that India is the second-largest shareholder in the bank.
During her visit, the Union Finance Minister will also hold important bilateral meetings with the President of the AIIB, as well as her counterparts from Jordan, Switzerland, Algeria, Saudi Arabia, and Nepal. Additionally, during the official tour, she is expected to meet with the leadership of the Qatar government and hold discussions with Qatari business leaders and investors.
The AIIB is a multilateral development bank whose primary objective is to promote sustainable infrastructure development and continuous economic growth in Asia. The bank focuses on encouraging investment in infrastructure and other productive sectors, generating wealth, and improving infrastructure connectivity. Delegations from member countries and other international organizations participate in its annual meetings.
