Five-Day Training Program Organized for Elderly Care in Diu
The National Institute of Social Defence (NISD) will conduct an old-age care training program for Anganwadi and frontline workers in Diu.

The National Institute of Social Defence (NISD), under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, is organizing a five-day old-age care training program in the Diu district. This initiative is being carried out in collaboration with the administration of the Diu Collector's Office in the Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu. Mr. Sudhansh Pant, Secretary of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, will inaugurate the program at the education center in Diu and will administer an oath to the participants regarding the welfare of senior citizens.
The primary objective of this program is to strengthen community-based support systems for senior citizens. Approximately 50 Anganwadi workers, frontline workers, and grassroots officials are expected to participate. Through this initiative, a sensitive workforce will be developed, capable of providing basic care for the elderly, identifying emerging needs, and facilitating their access to government schemes. The training specifically focuses on meeting the needs of senior citizens who live alone or have limited family support.
The training program will emphasize the physical, psychological, emotional, and social aspects of old age. Key topics include the rights of senior citizens, personal hygiene, nutrition, medication assistance, mobility support, safe transfer techniques, and fall prevention. Furthermore, participants will be trained in first aid, managing emergency situations, awareness of dementia, and the identification and reporting of abuse and exploitation of senior citizens.
Ms. Asha Sharma, Course Coordinator from the Senior Citizens Division of NISD, and Ms. Ritu Dandariyal, Junior Consultant, have been appointed to manage the program's operations. Mr. Gaurav Singh Rajawat, Director of NISD, will coordinate the inaugural session, while Mr. Rahul Dev Bora, Collector of Diu, will welcome the guests and participants.
It is expected that this capacity-building initiative will improve the early identification of elderly individuals in the Diu district and enhance the system for providing appropriate referral support. Additionally, the program aims to contribute to the quality of life and social inclusion of the elderly by strengthening coordination between senior citizens, the district administration, and service providers.
