HAL Delivers Indigenous Trainer Aircraft and Helicopters to Indian Air Force and Pawan Hans

In a ceremony held in Bengaluru, Karnataka, on September 18, 2026, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) delivered key aircraft and helicopters in the presence of Defence Minister Shri Rajnath Singh and Minister of Civil Aviation Shri K. Rammohan Naidu. During the event, the Indian Air Force (IAF) was provided with two Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas Final Operational Clearance (FOC) two-seater trainers and three HTT-40 basic trainers. Additionally, four Dhruv Next Generation (NG) helicopters were handed over to Pawan Hans Limited (PHL).

Defence Minister Shri Rajnath Singh described this achievement as a significant step toward the country's indigenous aircraft manufacturing capability, technical confidence, and self-reliance. He stated that the government's objective is to make India self-reliant and globally competitive in meeting its aviation needs. He emphasized that progress in the aerospace sector is a gradual process and requires better synergy between the public and private sectors.

Shri Rajnath Singh called upon young scientists and engineers to develop revolutionary technologies essential for future aerial operations. He highlighted the need for special focus on the indigenous development of modern fields such as Artificial Intelligence, autonomous systems, unmanned aerial systems, and cyber technology. Furthermore, he suggested making the timelines for technical projects realistic to reduce the risk of cost escalation and technological obsolescence.

Minister of Civil Aviation Shri K. Rammohan Naidu described the certification of the Dhruv-NG and its induction into non-military operations as a significant milestone for India's indigenous civil aviation ecosystem.

On this occasion, HAL Chairman and Managing Director Shri Ravi K. stated that these platforms reflect HAL's expertise gained over years and its capability to meet various civil and defense requirements. The event was also attended by Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal AP Singh, Secretary of Defence Production Sanjeev Kumar, and Secretary of the Ministry of Civil Aviation Sameer Kumar Sinha.

According to technical details, the LCA twin-seater trainers are the final two aircraft under the FOC contract, which will provide training to pilots for frontline fighter operations. The HTT-40 is an indigenous basic trainer aircraft designed for the initial training requirements of the defense forces. Meanwhile, the Dhruv-NG helicopter has been developed for civil and commercial tasks such as passenger transport, emergency medical services, and offshore logistics.
