Karnataka: Minister of State for Cooperation Murlidhar Mohol Inaugurates New Office of Shri Beereshwar Co-operative Credit Society

Union Minister of State for Cooperation and Civil Aviation, Mr. Murlidhar Mohol, inaugurated the new head office of the Shri Beereshwar Co-operative Credit Society Limited (Multi-State) in Nandi, Chikodi Taluk of Belagavi district, Karnataka. Several dignitaries, including Union Minister Mr. Pralhad Joshi and representatives from the cooperative sector, were present at the event.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Murlidhar Mohol stated that the Shri Beereshwar Co-operative Credit Society currently has approximately 460,000 members. The society operates 263 branches across the country with a total turnover exceeding 9,000 crore rupees. He extended his congratulations to the entire team on the occasion of the institution's 36th foundation day.

Praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of 'Sahkar se Samriddhi' and the leadership of Union Minister of Home Affairs and Cooperation Amit Shah, the Union Minister noted that the cooperative sector in the country is being made modern, transparent, and comprehensive. He mentioned that previously, cooperative functions were under the jurisdiction of a Joint Secretary within the Department of Agriculture, but a separate Ministry of Cooperation has now been established.

Providing details on the significant developmental work in the cooperative sector, Mr. Mohol stated that over 160 important decisions have been taken under the leadership of Amit Shah. This includes the commencement of work worth 3,000 crore rupees for the computerization of approximately 80,000 Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS). Additionally, rural cooperative institutions have been linked to more than 25 types of business activities.

He further explained that an umbrella organization called 'NUCFDC' has been established to resolve the problems of Urban Cooperative Banks, while the 'Sahkar Sarathi' platform has been developed for rural cooperative banks. Furthermore, three multi-state cooperative societies have been created for farmers, with about 70,000 cooperative institutions linked to them.

Discussing future requirements, the Minister of State said that approximately 1.7 million trained human resources will be needed for the cooperative sector over the next 10 years. In this direction, the launch of the country's first cooperative university, 'Tribhuvan' Cooperative University, is a significant initiative. He also mentioned new ventures such as the White Revolution, Sahkar Insurance, and Bharat Taxi. Finally, he highlighted the role of the National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC) in providing financial and institutional support to cooperative institutions.
