NHRC Takes Strict Action Over Dilapidated Roof of Government School in Darbhanga, Demands Detailed Report from District Magistrate
The National Human Rights Commission has taken suo motu cognizance of a case involving the dilapidated roof of a primary school in Darbhanga, Bihar, and has issued a notice to the District Magistrate.

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken suo motu cognizance of the precarious condition of a government primary school's roof in the Darbhanga district of Bihar. According to media reports, a main pillar of the school's roof in Kiratpur, Darbhanga, collapsed three to four months ago. Since then, the roof has been temporarily supported using wooden benches, desks, and bricks.
Expressing deep concern over the situation, the Commission stated that such negligence poses a serious threat to the safety of approximately 191 students and the staff working at the school. The NHRC clarified that if the facts reported are found to be true, it constitutes a serious violation of human rights.
A media report published on October 5, 2026, also indicated that the local administration appeared to be unaware of this critical situation. In light of these circumstances, the National Human Rights Commission has issued a notice to the District Magistrate of Darbhanga, requesting a detailed report on the entire matter to be submitted within two weeks.
