President Droupadi Murmu Presents 72nd National Film Awards; Veteran Actor Anant Nag Honored with Dadasaheb Phalke Award

President of India Smt. Droupadi Murmu presented the 72nd National Film Awards during a grand ceremony held on September 22, 2026, at Ekta Nagar in Kevadia, Gujarat. On this occasion, the President conferred the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award for the year 2024 upon veteran actor Mr. Anant Nag for his extraordinary contribution to Indian cinema.

In her address, President Murmu congratulated all the award winners, stating that they have earned national recognition through their talent and hard work. Praising Mr. Anant Nag, the President remarked that his acting is a coordination of the finest dimensions of theater and cinema, and that he is known for his effortless and authentic performances, which serve as a model for future generations.

The President noted that Indian films reflect the dreams, traditions, struggles, and future possibilities of the people of the country. She expressed her pleasure that the ceremony was organized near the Wall of Unity in the courtyard of the Statue of Unity, making it feel as though Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel himself was blessing this festival of cultural unity.

While appreciating the award-winning films, the President stated that 'Article 370' details the challenges and solutions regarding the country's unity, while the film 'Bhakshak' awakens society to the serious issue of women's safety. She described 'Swarajya Veer Savarkar' as an artistic tribute to the life story of Veer Savarkar and the non-feature film 'Bhangar' as a film expressing the unseen dimensions of life and death. Additionally, she expressed happiness over the award given to the Santhali film 'Angen', which promotes cultural diversity and social inclusion.

The President praised the jury members and emphasized the importance of ensuring the participation of women in every regional jury. She stated that a holistic human perspective is not possible without the perspective of women. Speaking on the work culture of the film industry, she urged that laborers, minor artists, and assistants receive respect and social security.

Finally, the President appealed to popular artists to become role models for the youth, promote a disciplined lifestyle, and avoid supporting substances harmful to health. She remarked that a true star is one who spreads light, not darkness.
