Prime Minister Commends Captain Smit Machhar for Courage and Quick Thinking
The Prime Minister spoke with Captain Smit Machhar via telephone to praise his bravery and thank him for saving the lives of numerous passengers.

The Prime Minister held a telephone conversation with Captain Smit Machhar, praising his courage, patience, and presence of mind during a critical emergency. The Prime Minister stated that Captain Smit saved many lives by making swift decisions, an act that has brought pride to 140 crore citizens of the country. He added that the entire nation is praying for Captain Smit's excellent health and longevity.
During the conversation, Captain Smit shared his experience, noting that he has been flying with FlyDubai (FZ) for 17 years and has served as a Captain for the last 11 years. He recounted that at the time of the accident, he was seriously injured and had fallen, but he realized the aircraft was descending. Disregarding his own life, he made a final effort to open the door, which allowed other passengers to be saved. Captain Smit mentioned that he recited the Hanuman Chalisa during moments of pain and believes that God saved him.
The Prime Minister also praised the strength of Captain Smit's family, specifically mentioning his mother, Geeta Behen, and his wife, Sonal Behen. He noted that Sonal Behen spoke with great patience and composure despite the adverse circumstances. Appreciating Captain Smit's values and his connection to his culture, the Prime Minister remarked that he embodied the spirit of non-violence on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti.
Furthermore, the Prime Minister expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the governments of Saudi Arabia and the UAE for the care provided to Captain Smit. He assured the Captain that he is always available for him. Viewing his recovery as a journey, Captain Smit expressed confidence that he would soon return to full health.
