Prime Minister Launches Development Projects Worth ₹13,000 Crore in Chennai
The Prime Minister inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for various projects totaling ₹13,000 crore to boost infrastructure, transport, and the manufacturing sector in Tamil Nadu.

During an event held in Chennai, the Prime Minister launched development projects worth ₹13,000 crore for Tamil Nadu. Under these initiatives, several completed projects were inaugurated and foundation stones were laid for new schemes aimed at simplifying daily commutes, strengthening industry and trade, and creating employment opportunities for the youth in the state.
On this occasion, the Prime Minister dedicated a new stretch of the Chennai Metro to the public. He noted that the country's metro network has undergone extensive expansion over the past decade. While metro services were available in only five cities in 2014, this number has now increased to 25 cities. The length of the metro network has also grown from approximately 250 kilometers in 2014 to more than 1,100 kilometers currently.
Emphasizing the manufacturing sector, the Prime Minister stated that the Central Government is promoting manufacturing in Tamil Nadu through campaigns such as 'Make in India' and 'Vocal for Local.' He informed that India has now become the world's second-largest mobile manufacturer. Since 2014, electronics exports have increased 11-fold and defense exports have surged 50-fold. In line with this, the foundation stone for an 'Advance Lubricant Base Oil Project' was laid, which is expected to reduce imports and create new jobs.
Discussing the development of port infrastructure, the Prime Minister shared that the Central Government is developing the VOC Port in Tuticorin into a world-class mega container and green energy hub with an investment of approximately ₹17,000 crore. Upon completion of this project, ultra-large container vessels will be able to dock there, positioning Tamil Nadu as a center for global industry and transport.
Regarding the blue economy and the welfare of fishermen, the Prime Minister mentioned the PM Matsya Sampada Yojana and other projects. Under these, support is being provided for the modernization of fishing harbors, the development of fishing landing centers, cold chain facilities, and transport vehicles. Additionally, emphasis was placed on the development of a 'Sea-weed Park' in Tamil Nadu and providing working capital to fishermen through Kisan Credit Cards.
In his address, the Prime Minister mentioned that he took oath as Chief Minister in October 2001 and has now completed 25 years as a head of government. Reiterating his belief in cooperative federalism, he stated that the development of the country is only possible through the development of the states.
