Defense Minister Shri Rajnath Singh participated in the 'Barakhana' program organized by the Eastern Naval Command in Visakhapatnam on October 05, 2026. On this occasion, he interacted with Indian Navy personnel and their families, praising the Navy's unwavering commitment to safeguarding the country's maritime interests.
Addressing the attendees, the Defense Minister stated that the Indian Navy has emerged as a powerful maritime force, with its capabilities recognized across the Indo-Pacific region. He commended the dedication of naval personnel in ensuring the security of India's maritime borders across all weather and operational conditions. Recalling the valor of the Navy, he made a special mention of 'Operation Trident' during the 1971 war, in which the Indian Navy demonstrated its offensive capabilities by attacking the Karachi port.
Discussing India's increasing maritime strength, Shri Rajnath Singh noted that the Navy is adapting itself to the security landscape of the 21st century. He stated that the country is currently developing and incorporating advanced platforms such as indigenous aircraft carriers, nuclear submarines, stealth frigates, and Scorpène-class submarines. He emphasized that the true strength of the Navy lies not only in technology and ships but in the professional competence, patriotism, and courage of its personnel.
Sharing a comprehensive maritime vision, the Defense Minister said that India should operate with the spirit of 'moving toward prosperity and power from the seas.' According to him, oceans should be viewed not merely as borders to be secured, but as opportunities for economic growth, strategic influence, and national prosperity.
During the program, Shri Rajnath Singh described the contribution of the families of naval personnel as a valuable national asset. He remarked that while personnel are deployed at sea, their families provide essential support by managing household responsibilities. Praising the familial spirit of 'Barakhana,' he called it a symbol of the deep connection and brotherhood between the defense forces and the nation.
