The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment has shared an inspiring story of recovery from drug addiction. Dara Singh (name changed), a 29-year-old resident of Dausa district in Rajasthan, has defeated a long-standing alcohol addiction after receiving treatment and rehabilitation support from a de-addiction center in Didwana, which serves as an integrated rehabilitation center for victims of substance abuse.
Due to his dependence on alcohol, Dara Singh's physical and mental health were severely affected. He experienced emotional instability, stress, and a loss of self-esteem. This also took a toll on his family, who faced mutual disputes, social stigma, and financial pressure. Since a large portion of the family's resources was being spent on alcohol, their financial situation became unstable, and his relationships with the community deteriorated.
Amidst these circumstances, and with the support of his family, Dara Singh was admitted to the de-addiction center in Didwana. There, he actively participated in counseling sessions, yoga, medical care, and rehabilitation activities while following the center's daily routine. Daily counseling and behavioral guidance helped him understand the adverse effects of addiction and develop healthy habits.
Following the completion of his treatment, a remarkable improvement was observed in Dara Singh's health and behavior. He completely quit alcohol and restored his family relationships. He has also resumed his self-employment, earning approximately 500 rupees per day. This income has enabled him to become financially self-reliant and contribute to his family.
Sharing his experience, Dara Singh said, “The treatment and counseling gave me the strength to quit alcohol and restart my life. Today, I am healthy, earning for my family, and living a life of dignity.”
This case demonstrates that through timely professional treatment, counseling, family support, and continuous rehabilitation assistance, it is possible to recover from dependence on drugs and psychotropic substances and return to a productive and dignified life.
