Department of Biotechnology Launches 'Special Campaign 6' for E-Waste Management
The Department of Biotechnology, under the Ministry of Science and Technology, has decided to conduct a special campaign from October 2 to 31, 2026, to promote e-waste disposal and workplace cleanliness.

The Department of Biotechnology (DBT) of the Ministry of Science and Technology, under the aegis of the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DAR & PG), has launched 'Special Campaign 6' to reduce pending cases, improve record management, and enhance the workplace experience. Running from October 2 to October 31, 2026, this campaign focuses primarily on the cleanliness and proper disposal of e-waste.
During the preparatory phase from September 15 to 30, 2026, the department set several key targets. These include the review and organization of 18,741 e-files and 7,773 physical files, the cleaning of 156 sites to create 46,486 square feet of usable space, and the disposal of 1,694 e-waste items. The department aims to generate revenue of 3,933,055 rupees through the disposal of e-waste and non-e-waste items.
As part of this campaign, an e-waste disposal program was organized on October 2, 2026, on the occasion of Swachh Bharat Diwas at the DBT headquarters in the CGO Complex, Delhi. Leading the program, the Secretary (DBT) urged officers and employees to take personal responsibility for disposing of useless materials and e-waste at both home and the workplace. The Secretary emphasized the responsible management of electronic assets to create usable space in government offices and generate financial value for the public exchequer.
To increase awareness regarding cleanliness, the department has undertaken further initiatives. On October 1, 2026, a 'One Day, One Hour, Together' campaign was conducted under the chairmanship of Joint Secretary (Administration) Ms. Ekta Vishnoi, involving 'shramdaan' (voluntary labor) in a public park near the JLN Metro Station and plantation activities under the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' initiative. Additionally, a 'Waste to Art' exhibition was organized under the theme 'Cleanliness to Prosperity,' featuring creative artworks made from discarded materials.
The department also organized 'Safety and Respect Camps' for Safai Mitras, providing preventive health check-ups and medical consultations for sanitation workers and their dependents with the help of healthcare providers. The progress of the campaign is being regularly reviewed by the Secretary, Joint Secretary, and the Nodal Officer, with photographs being uploaded to the SCDPM portal.
