The Department of Justice, under the Ministry of Law and Justice, organized the 'Swachhata Hi Seva-2026' campaign from September 17 to October 2, 2026, to encourage voluntary efforts toward cleanliness and hygiene. The theme for this year's campaign was 'Participation in Cleanliness, Clean India, Developed India.' The campaign commenced on September 17, when the Secretary of the Department of Justice, Mr. Neeraj Verma, administered a cleanliness pledge to all officers and employees.
During the campaign, department officials participated in 'Shramdaan' activities, which included the cleaning of public spaces, stairs, walls, and tiles. Additionally, plant pots within the office premises were painted. The campaign also focused on improving office infrastructure, including the repair or replacement of loose wiring, faulty taps, broken furniture, and equipment such as computers and printers. Special attention was given to the deep cleaning of areas often missed during routine maintenance, such as ceilings and water tanks, as well as the washing and replacement of office curtains.
As part of the initiative, a 'Sports for Swachhata' program was organized on September 25, 2026, featuring competitions such as a cleanliness run and dart board games.
On October 1, 2026, the Minister of State for Law and Justice (Independent Charge), Mr. Arjun Ram Meghwal, led the campaign at the Department of Justice's Jaisalmer Bhavan in New Delhi. He inaugurated the program by offering floral tributes to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and conducted the 'One Day, One Hour, Together' drive. Furthermore, a plantation drive was carried out under the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' initiative to promote environmental conservation.
At the conclusion of the campaign, Mr. Arjun Ram Meghwal presented Swachhata honors to the department's sanitation workers (Safai Mitras) and awarded the winners of the sports competitions. Sanitation workers were also provided with cleanliness kits containing items such as sanitizers, gloves, towels, T-shirts, and caps.
