The Department of Telecommunications is organizing the 'Swachhata Hi Seva 2026' campaign from September 17, 2026, to October 2, 2026. This year's campaign theme, “Participation in Cleanliness, Clean India, Developed India,” reflects a “whole-of-society” and “whole-of-government” approach toward cleanliness. The primary objective of this initiative is to spread widespread public awareness about hygiene and encourage the participation of citizens.
Under the campaign, special emphasis is being placed on the cleaning of cleanliness target units across the country. This effort sees active participation from departmental officers, employees, affiliated and subordinate offices, regional units, and Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs).
Several key activities were conducted by the Department of Telecommunications during the campaign:
First, a cleanliness pledge was taken, where Department Secretary Mr. Amit Agarwal joined officers in swearing an oath to uphold cleanliness and expressing commitment to responsible civic behavior.
Second, a public participation drive was held on September 23, 2026, at Sanchar Bhavan. Essay writing and poster-making competitions were organized for the children of employees to foster a spirit of cleanliness through creativity.
Third, a waste management awareness session was organized for sanitation workers. During this session, Mr. J.B. Ravindra, a retired Joint Advisor from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, shared information on effective waste management techniques and practical measures.
Fourth, a Safai Mitra security camp was held to make housekeeping staff aware of occupational hazards and risks at the workplace. They were also provided with safety equipment and first-aid kits.
Similar activities, including tree plantation, awareness sessions, and cleanliness pledges, are being organized across the regional offices of the Department of Telecommunications. The campaign will conclude on October 2, 2026, on the occasion of 'Swachh Bharat Diwas.' To mark this special occasion, Honorable Minister of Communications Mr. Jyotiraditya M. Scindia will plant a sapling under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ initiative.
