Ministry of Textiles Launches Special Campaign for Waste Management and Sustainable Development Under 'Swachhata Hi Seva 2026'
The Ministry of Textiles organized awareness campaigns and activities through various institutions to promote cleanliness, sustainable development, and the concept of creating value from waste.

The Ministry of Textiles has organized extensive activities under the 'Swachhata Hi Seva 2026' campaign to promote cleanliness, sustainable development, and the concept of 'Waste to Wealth.' The primary objective of this campaign is to strengthen waste management systems and raise awareness about environmental conservation within the community.
The Jute Corporation of India (JCI) organized programs under the theme 'Prosperity through Cleanliness - Innovation from Scrap' at RLD Bhadrak in Odisha. As part of these activities, the team collected waste from homes and surrounding areas and educated the public on the principles of Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle (RRR), as well as the reduction of single-use plastics. Using the collected waste, corporation employees created useful items such as pen holders, dustbins, decorative pieces, paper bags, and cloth bags, which were subsequently distributed to local residents.
The National Jute Board (NJB) organized a comprehensive health check-up camp for its housekeeping staff, gardeners, and sanitation workers under this campaign. Organized in collaboration with the ESIC Hospital, the camp provided medical evaluations, including general health check-ups, blood tests, and ECGs, to ensure the welfare and safety of the employees responsible for maintaining workplace cleanliness.
At the Office of the Development Commissioner (Handlooms), a cleaning drive and discussions were held with sanitation workers on the topic of 'Stopping Single-Use Plastics' to improve the management of plastic bottles and other waste materials.
Additionally, the Cotton Corporation of India conducted an awareness campaign across all its offices on September 29, 2026. The aim was to educate employees on the reuse of materials and the proper collection of recyclable items to ensure the efficient use of resources.
The National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) carried out plantation and beautification activities on its campuses under the theme 'Clean Festival, Green Festival / A Tree in the Name of Mother.' Furthermore, the institute promoted creative reuse of waste materials, plastic recycling, and the creation of art from waste through the 'Prosperity through Cleanliness – Waste is Wealth and Art from Waste' initiative.
