NHRC Takes Cognizance of Alleged Sexual Harassment of Women Journalists at Jantar Mantar, Issues Notice to Delhi Police Commissioner

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken suo motu cognizance of a case involving the alleged sexual harassment of three women journalists by Delhi Police personnel during a protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi. The incident reportedly took place on October 3, 2026.
The Commission initiated this action based on a media report. The NHRC has clarified that if the information provided in the news report is found to be correct, it would constitute a serious violation of human rights. In this regard, the Commission has issued a notice to the Delhi Police Commissioner, directing the submission of a detailed report within two weeks.
According to a media report published on October 5, 2026, the New Delhi District Police had received complaints regarding these alleged incidents. These complaints have since been handed over to the Crime Branch of the Delhi Police for further investigation.
