Seva Diwas: Union Minister Dr. Virendra Kumar Lights 'Lamp of Blessing' with Recovered Addicts

The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment organized a special program under the 'Seva Sankalp Abhiyan' on the occasion of 'Seva Diwas' at the Dr. Ambedkar International Centre in the national capital, Delhi. During the event, through the 'Aashirwad ka Diya' (Lamp of Blessing) initiative, Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Dr. Virendra Kumar joined individuals who have successfully completed the process of treatment and rehabilitation to recover from drug addiction in lighting lamps.

Approximately 250 people who received treatment from ministry grant-in-aid institutions in Delhi-NCR and surrounding areas participated in the ceremony. The primary objective of this initiative was to instill hope, dignity, and courage in recovering addicts and their families. Furthermore, the government reaffirmed its commitment to reducing the demand for narcotics and strengthening efforts toward prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Virendra Kumar stated that the journey of recovery is a journey of hope and a new beginning. He emphasized that those who have overcome addiction deserve respect, social acceptance, and the opportunity to rebuild their lives. The Minister highlighted that professional treatment, continuous rehabilitation, family support, and community participation are critical to the recovery process. He appealed for the creation of a social environment where recovering individuals face no discrimination and are given opportunities to lead a dignified life.

This program was part of the nationwide 'Seva Sankalp Abhiyan,' which focuses on inclusive governance and empowerment. During the event, the Union Minister also visited a special exhibition organized at the Dr. Ambedkar International Centre. The exhibition features 76 original paintings depicting the life and public journey of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which will remain open to the general public until the 20th.

Present on the occasion were Dr. Sandeep R. Rathore, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment; Mr. Astik Kumar Pandey, Director; Mr. Akash Patil, Director of DAIC, along with senior officials from the ministry and members of civil society. The Department of Social Justice and Empowerment continues to work toward bringing people affected by drug addiction back into the mainstream of society by providing institutional support.
