South Regional Agricultural Conference to be Held in Hyderabad to Discuss Sustainable and Resilient Farming
The Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India, will organize the South Regional Agricultural Conference in Hyderabad on September 18 to discuss key priorities and innovations in the agricultural sector.
The Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India, is set to organize the 'Regional Agricultural Conference - South Zone' in Hyderabad on September 18. The primary objective of this conference is to deliberate on measures for sustainable and resilient farming. The event will bring together representatives from the Central Government, South Indian states, and Union Territories, along with agricultural experts, ICAR institutes, progressive farmers, and other relevant stakeholders.
Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, along with Ministers of State Shri Ram Nath Thakur and Shri Bhagirath Choudhary, will be present at the conference. Additionally, ministers and senior officials from Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Puducherry, and Lakshadweep will participate in the meeting.
Several key priorities will be discussed during the conference, including digital agriculture, the farmer registry, high-value horticulture and value addition, self-reliance in pulses and edible oils, natural farming, integrated farming systems, and balanced fertilizer management. Furthermore, measures to investigate fake fertilizers and pesticides will also be considered.
Various states will showcase their innovation systems and best practices at the conference. Key highlights will include Telangana's 'Rythu Nestham', Andhra Pradesh's approach to tackling weather variability, Karnataka's pulse production methods, Kerala's procurement and market initiatives, and Tamil Nadu's precision farming and high-tech agriculture.
The event aims to strengthen synergy between the Centre and the states and share successful initiatives. Through this, efforts will be made to develop targeted strategies for achieving self-reliance in agriculture, promoting climate-resilient farming, and creating a robust infrastructure for storage, processing, and marketing.
