TRAI Releases Mobile Network Quality Report for Fazilka; Assesses Data and Voice Services
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has released findings from an independent drive test conducted to examine mobile network quality in Fazilka city and surrounding areas of Punjab.

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has made public the results of the Independent Drive Test (IDT) conducted in Fazilka city and its surrounding areas within the Punjab LSA during August 2026. The primary objective of this test was to assess and verify the real-time quality of voice and data services provided by Telecom Service Providers (TSPs).
These tests were conducted between August 5 and August 7, 2026, under the supervision of TRAI's Jaipur Regional Office. The assessment included a 184.6 kilometer city drive, a 1.9 kilometer walk test, and 6 hotspot locations. During the testing, live data and voice sessions were monitored using SIM cards across 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G networks.
According to the report, the performance of telecom companies across key parameters was as follows:
Coverage Gap: In auto-selection mode, the ratio of poor signals was 178/31329 for Airtel, 1575/31183 for BSNL, 295/30439 for RJIL (Reliance Jio), and 820/31163 for VIL (Vi).
Call Drops: Among successfully established calls, the call drop rate was zero (0) for Airtel and RJIL, while it was recorded as 3/281 for BSNL and 3/248 for VIL.
Call Silence: In cases of silence lasting more than 3 seconds, 1/268 instances were found in Airtel, 4/273 in BSNL, 3/272 in RJIL, and 6/272 in VIL.
Packet Loss Rate: The downlink packet loss rate was 0.33% for Airtel, 2.68% for BSNL, 0.76% for RJIL, and 0.32% for VIL. The uplink packet loss rate was recorded at 0.36% for Airtel, 2.90% for BSNL, 0.42% for RJIL, and 0.43% for VIL.
Data Speed (Throughput): In terms of average download speed, RJIL (5G/4G) led with 271.44 Mbps, followed by Airtel (5G/4G) at 204.39 Mbps, VIL (5G/4G/2G) at 17.19 Mbps, and BSNL (4G/3G/2G) at 15.59 Mbps. The average upload speed was 23.52 Mbps for Airtel (5G/4G), 20.86 Mbps for RJIL (5G/4G), 15.10 Mbps for VIL (5G/4G/2G), and 6.39 Mbps for BSNL (4G/3G/2G).
This drive test was carried out in areas including Abohar, Ghallu, Khui Khera, Banwala, Sureshwala, Fazilka, Chahla, Chak Khiowali, Chamina Wala, Chak Pakki, Chak Dumal, Bahmani Wala, Jalalabad, Baghe ke Uttar, Ghubaya, Ladhuka, and Theh Kalandar.
