Unemployment Rate Dropped from 6% to 3.2% Due to Government Schemes: Dr. L. Murugan

Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting and Parliamentary Affairs, Dr. L. Murugan, participated in the 20th Rozgar Mela organized at D.G. Vaishnav College in Chennai. On this occasion, he distributed appointment letters to 285 newly selected candidates for various ministries, departments, and organizations of the Central Government. These appointments include institutions such as the Income Tax Department, Employees' State Insurance Corporation, Airports Authority of India, Ministry of Defence, Department of Posts, Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research, and Southern Railway.

Addressing the program, Dr. L. Murugan stated that the youth entering government service will play a crucial role in achieving the goal of a Developed India by 2047. He advised the newly appointed youth not to view their responsibility merely as employment, but as an opportunity for national service and the development of the country. He emphasized that government employees are the face of the government when interacting with the public; therefore, honesty, accountability, and empathy must be part of their service conduct.

Speaking on the issue of unemployment, the Union Minister said that as a result of various steps taken by the government, the unemployment rate has decreased from 6 percent to 3.2 percent. Mentioning key initiatives such as Make in India, Startup India, Standup India, and the MUDRA loan scheme, he said that these programs have enabled youth to become job creators rather than job seekers. He noted that the number of startups in the country was approximately 400 in 2014, which has now increased to more than 2.5 lakh, with a large number of founders under the age of 30.

Dr. Murugan highlighted the growing opportunities for youth in emerging sectors such as space technology and nuclear energy, as well as the increasing participation of women in space, defense, education, and public administration. He informed that more than 12.75 lakh appointment letters have been distributed through Rozgar Melas so far.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in the 20th Rozgar Mela held across 45 locations nationwide via video conferencing and distributed appointment letters to more than 51,000 youth. Several senior officials, including Mr. Sunil Bajpai, Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax for Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, were present at the event. Speaking to the media, the Union Minister also mentioned that Navodaya Vidyalayas in Tamil Nadu will provide quality education to underprivileged and economically weaker students, along with the facility of primary education in their mother tongue.
