UCIL, under the Department of Atomic Energy, celebrated its Diamond Jubilee Year to commemorate six decades of contribution to India's uranium mining and processing sector.

Uranium Corporation of India Limited (UCIL), a public sector undertaking under the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), celebrated its Diamond Jubilee Year on October 4, 2026. The event marks the formation of UCIL on October 4, 1967, and its six decades of contribution to India's atomic energy program.
Ms. Seema Jain, Member-Finance of the Atomic Energy Commission, attended the ceremony held in Jadugoda as the chief guest. During the program, she visited the Technology Demonstration Pilot Plant (TDPP) at the Research and Development (R&D) center in Jadugoda and the site of the proposed new Dark Matter Laboratory at the 815-meter level of the Jadugoda underground mine. This laboratory is to be established by the Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics, an institute supported by the Department of Atomic Energy.
On this occasion, Ms. Seema Jain stated that UCIL's Diamond Jubilee Year is a celebration of scientific capability, institutional experience, and six decades of dedicated service to the nation. She described it as an opportunity to pay tribute to Dr. Homi Jehangir Bhabha and the pioneers who laid the foundation for India's uranium mining and processing capabilities.
Dr. Ajit Kumar Mohanty, Secretary of the Department of Atomic Energy and Chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission, said in his greetings that this year is an opportunity to recognize UCIL's contributions and reaffirm the importance of continuous innovation and capacity building toward the atomic energy mission. Meanwhile, Dr. Kacham Anand Rao, Chairman and Managing Director of UCIL, described it as a proud milestone for the institution, stating that over six decades, UCIL has strengthened its capabilities in the fields of technology, safety, and environmental management.
The highlights of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations included a press workshop organized at the information center in Narwapahar, where media representatives visited the uranium mining and milling facilities. Additionally, a special DAE technology exhibition was organized for school students, showcasing the industrial and social applications of atomic energy.
Established in 1967, UCIL has been an integral part of developing India's indigenous uranium mining and processing capabilities, providing the essential resource base for the country's atomic energy program.
