World Rhino Day 2026: National Zoological Park Organizes Teacher Orientation and Awareness Programs

The National Zoological Park (NZP), New Delhi, organized a series of awareness and educational programs to commemorate World Rhino Day 2026. The primary objective of these initiatives was to promote rhinoceros conservation and strengthen the involvement of schools and the general public in the protection of wildlife and biodiversity.

As part of its school outreach initiative, the zoo hosted the first orientation program for teachers in charge of Eco-Clubs, which saw participation from teachers representing 12 schools in Delhi. During the event, the Director of NZP interacted with the educators, emphasizing the need to enhance collaboration between schools and the zoo for environmental education and conservation awareness. The program provided teachers with information regarding nature-based educational activities, citizen science initiatives, and other outreach programs offered by the zoo to increase school participation in future workshops and competitions.

Additionally, a drawing activity and a public awareness talk were organized for visitors at the zoo's exit gate. Zoo staff shared information regarding the ecological importance of rhinoceroses, their current conservation status, and the challenges faced by wild rhino populations.

As another component of the event, special 'Keepers Talks' were held at the rhino enclosures. During these sessions, caretakers informed visitors about the behavior of rhinoceroses, their dietary habits, daily care routines, and scientific management. It is noteworthy that the National Zoological Park, New Delhi, is currently home to an adult female rhinoceros named 'Anjuha'.
