Ahmedabad to Host BRICS Traditional and Indigenous Demonstration Games 2026, Union Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya to Inaugurate
As part of India's BRICS presidency, traditional and indigenous games will be showcased at the Veer Savarkar Sports Complex in Ahmedabad on October 12, 2026.

The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, in collaboration with the Government of Gujarat, will organize the 'BRICS Traditional and Indigenous Games Demonstration Games 2026' on October 12, 2026. This event will be held at the Veer Savarkar Sports Complex in Ahmedabad during India's BRICS presidency. Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, will inaugurate the program.
Also attending the occasion will be Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Harsh Sanghavi, Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports Mrs. Raksha Nikhil Khadse, and Gujarat Minister of State for Sports Dr. Jayram Gamit.
The event is designed as a non-competitive platform aimed at preserving cultural heritage and promoting people-to-people cooperation through the demonstration, documentation, and exchange of traditional sports practices among BRICS member and partner countries. Special emphasis will be placed on cultural significance, mutual interaction, and knowledge sharing.
Various countries will showcase their traditional sports practices during the event, including: - India: Mallakhamba, Yogasana, and Kalaripayattu - China: Wushu, Lion Dance, and Health Qigong - Russia: Gorodki and Sambo - Brazil: Zarabatana, Corrida de Toros, Para-Jiu-Jitsu, and Capoeira - Belarus: Gorodki - Bolivia: Lucha de Cholitas, Tinku, Rayuela, Trompo, Cachinas, and Carrera de Sacos - Ethiopia: Ethiopian Wrestling (Tegel), Ethiopian Gena (Field Hockey), and Seles Gebeta - Iran: Zurkhaneh, Haft Sang, and Ganiyah - Kazakhstan: Asyk Atu, Togyz Kumalak, and Kazakh Kuresi - South Africa: Kgati and Intonga - United Arab Emirates: Al Tabba
Bilateral meetings with delegations are also planned to strengthen cooperation in sports and promote traditional games within the BRICS framework. The event is expected to further strengthen mutual understanding and cultural ties among BRICS nations.
