Banks to Remain Open on September 27 to Ensure Customer Convenience Amid Strike
Due to a proposed nationwide bank strike from September 28 to 30, the government has decided to keep all public sector and regional rural banks operational on September 27.
In view of the three-day nationwide bank strike proposed by the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) from September 28 to 30, 2026, the government has taken special measures to meet the banking needs of citizens. Since September 26 and 27 are weekend holidays immediately preceding the strike, this decision was made to ensure that banking services for the public are not adversely affected for an extended period.
Under this arrangement, all public sector banks and regional rural banks will function normally on Sunday, September 27, 2026. The Reserve Bank of India has granted approval to keep all bank branches, offices, ATM-linked branches, and currency chests fully operational on September 27.
The Ministry of Finance has clarified that the welfare and convenience of bank customers remain the government's top priority. The government and bank management have appealed to the unions to postpone the proposed strike and have implemented necessary measures to ensure the uninterrupted supply of essential banking services.
