Department of Food and Public Distribution Conducts Nationwide Cleanliness Drive Under 'One Day, One Hour, Together' Initiative
As part of Swachhata Hi Seva 2026, the Department of Food and Public Distribution and its public enterprises organized collective voluntary labor across the country.

The Department of Food and Public Distribution (DFPD) of the Government of India, in collaboration with its Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs), affiliated, and subordinate offices, organized a national cleanliness initiative titled ‘One Day, One Hour, Together’ on October 1, 2026, starting at 8:00 AM. This campaign was carried out at various locations across the country as part of the 'Swachhata Hi Seva 2026' program.
In New Delhi, officials and employees of the department performed one hour of voluntary labor (Shramdaan) in the outer premises of the Hanuman Temple located on Baba Kharak Singh Marg. The primary objective of this initiative was to promote cleanliness, improve sanitation systems, and raise awareness among citizens regarding responsible waste disposal.
Various public enterprises actively participated in this campaign. The Central Warehousing Corporation (CWC) carried out cleaning and beautification work at the Siri Fort Sports Complex on August Kranti Marg and the MCD parking area opposite the NFDC in New Delhi. Meanwhile, the Food Corporation of India (FCI) conducted special cleanliness drives at its headquarters, regional, and district offices, and also organized a rally to Central Park in Connaught Place, New Delhi, to increase awareness.
Other institutions also joined the effort, with the Indian Grain Management Research Institute (IGMRI) conducting cleanliness drives in Hyderabad and Ludhiana. The department's Quality Control Cells performed collective voluntary labor in Bhubaneswar, Bengaluru, Chennai, Kolkata, Guwahati, Patna, Pune, Lucknow, Bhopal, and Hyderabad. Additionally, the Warehousing Development Regulatory Authority (WDRA) organized a cleanup on the footpath outside its office area, and the National Sugar Institute (NSI), Kanpur, conducted a cleanliness drive within its office premises.
