Index of Industrial Production (IIP) Records 4.8 Percent Annual Growth in August 2026
According to data released by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the Index of Industrial Production saw a 4.8 percent increase in August 2026, with strong growth observed in sectors such as cement and electricity.

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has released the provisional estimates of the Index of Industrial Production (IIP) for August 2026 and the final index figures for July 2026, using 2022-23 as the base year.
According to the provisional estimates for August 2026, the Index of Industrial Production (IIP) recorded a year-on-year growth of 4.8 percent compared to August 2025. This growth rate is slightly lower than the 5.0 percent rate recorded in the final index for July 2026.
Looking at sector-wise performance in August 2026, cement, electricity, iron ore, steel, and refinery products saw annual growth of 12.5 percent, 11.6 percent, 5.5 percent, 3.4 percent, and 2.6 percent, respectively. Conversely, negative growth was recorded in the coal, natural gas, crude oil, and fertilizer sectors. According to the data, cement, electricity, and iron ore have been the primary drivers of overall growth in recent months.
During the period from April to August 2026, the cumulative growth rate of the IIP stood at 4.3 percent (provisional estimate), which is higher than the 2.4 percent recorded during the same period last year.
The Ministry has revised the final index for July 2026, reducing it from the provisional estimate of 121.2 to 120.8. Consequently, the year-on-year growth rate for July has been revised from 5.4 percent to 5.0 percent.
According to the publication schedule, the IIP index for the month of September 2026 will be released on Wednesday, October 21, 2026.
