Indian Parliamentary Delegation Participates in 153rd Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly in Tanzania
Led by Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Mr. Harivansh, the Indian parliamentary delegation is attending the 153rd IPU Assembly held in Arusha, Tanzania.

An Indian parliamentary delegation is participating in the 153rd Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly currently taking place in Arusha, Tanzania. The delegation is being led by the Honorable Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, Mr. Harivansh. On the first day of the assembly, October 5, 2026, members of the delegation attended various critical sessions and programs.
During the meetings, Dr. Sanjay Jaiswal, a Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) and a member of the IPU's health-related committee, participated in the health committee sessions. Meanwhile, the Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha and other members attended meetings of the Asia-Pacific geopolitical group. Mrs. Aparajita Sarangi, a Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) and member of the IPU Executive Committee, briefed the group members on the recent activities and initiatives of the Executive Committee.
Indian MPs also played an active role in sessions organized by the forum for women parliamentarians. Lok Sabha MP Mrs. Kamaljeet Sahrawat presented India's perspective during a discussion on "Inclusive Social Development for All: Parliamentary Strategies to Promote the Rights and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities." Additionally, Lok Sabha MP Mrs. Bijuli Kalita Medhi participated in the second session centered on the theme of "Women's Leadership."
Other significant involvements included Rajya Sabha MP Dr. Sasmit Patra's attendance at the Asian Parliamentary Assembly meeting and Lok Sabha MP Mrs. Lata Wankhede's participation in the board meeting of the IPU's High-Level Advisory Group on Combating Terrorism and Violent Extremism (HLAG-CTVE).
The Indian delegation held bilateral meetings with His Excellency Milton Dick, Speaker of the House of Representatives of Australia, and the Honorable Musa Azan Zungu, Speaker of the Parliament of the United Republic of Tanzania, where issues of mutual interest were discussed.
On this occasion, the Parliament of Tanzania organized the formal opening ceremony of the 153rd IPU Assembly, which was addressed by Her Excellency Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, President of the Republic of Tanzania, who declared the assembly open. The opening ceremony was attended by the Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha along with MPs Mrs. Aparajita Sarangi, Mr. Anurag Singh Thakur, Mr. NK Premchandran, and Dr. Sasmit Patra. During this event, they also held discussions with several ministers, including the Foreign Minister of the Tanzanian government.
