Keel-Laying Ceremony Completed for Indian Navy's First Next-Generation Missile Vessel
Construction has commenced for the Indian Navy's first Next-Generation Missile Vessel (NGMV) at Cochin Shipyard Limited.

The keel-laying ceremony for the first vessel of the Indian Navy's Next-Generation Missile Vessel (NGMV) project was held on September 18, 2026, at Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) in Kochi. Vice Admiral Sanjay Sadhu, Controller of Warship Production and Acquisition, attended the event as the chief guest. Senior officials from the Indian Navy and Cochin Shipyard Limited were also present on the occasion.
The contract for the construction of the NGMV was signed with CSL in March 2023. This missile vessel is planned to be equipped with state-of-the-art sensors and weaponry, which will expand the Indian Navy's capabilities as a 'future-ready and war-ready force.'
This project reflects India's commitment to building a robust and modern navy capable of operating in the complex maritime environment of the Indian Ocean Region. All major and critical equipment for this vessel is being developed and manufactured indigenously, serving as a testament to the growing capabilities of the Indian defense industry.
