The Indian Navy ship INS Sahyadri arrived in Vladivostok, Russia, on October 10, 2026. The warship will participate in the bilateral exercise 'Indra-2026,' scheduled to take place between the Indian Navy and the Russian Federation Navy (RUFN) from October 13 to 18, 2026.
The primary objective of this exercise is to provide an opportunity for the navies of both countries to engage in deliberations at professional and operational levels. This initiative is expected to enhance maritime cooperation and strengthen the capability of both forces to work together. The participation of INS Sahyadri aligns with the Government of India's 'SAGAR' (Security and Growth for All in the Region) vision, further empowering the long-term defense and maritime partnership between India and Russia.
This deployment also serves as an opportunity to build upon the momentum generated during the 23rd India-Russia Annual Summit held on December 4 and 5, 2025. Under Exercise Indra-2026, various activities will be conducted during the initial harbor phase, followed by a series of coordinated operational programs at sea.
The exercise will encompass professional discussions and various maritime activities aimed at improving mutual understanding, operational coordination, and reciprocal capabilities between the two navies. Alongside operational activities, personnel from both navies will have the opportunity to engage in dialogue and strengthen people-to-people ties through social and cultural exchanges.
