Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs Celebrates 11th Ayurveda Day, Emphasizes 'Ayurveda for a Healthy Tomorrow'
The event held at Sankalp Bhavan in New Delhi focused on preventive healthcare, sustainable lifestyles, and the significance of medicinal plants.

The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs celebrated the 11th Ayurveda Day on September 23, 2026, at Sankalp Bhavan in New Delhi. Organized under the leadership of the Ministry of Ayush, the nationwide celebration was centered around the theme 'Ayurveda for a Healthy Tomorrow.' The primary objective of the event was to promote preventive healthcare, holistic wellness, and a sustainable lifestyle.
On this occasion, the Ministry organized a special seminar, brainstorming sessions, and discussion forums. The program commenced with a brief lecture on the theme delivered by Mr. R.K. Tiwari, Additional Director General of Urban Health Services (UHS) under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. This was followed by an expert lecture on community wellness and the scientific pathways of prevention by Dr. Ramavtar Sharma, Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Swasthavritta at the All India Institute of Ayurveda, New Delhi. Additionally, Dr. Ashish Kumar Tripathi, domain expert and editor at the Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS) under the Ministry of Ayush, highlighted the importance of medicinal plants and Ayurveda.
During the session, experts emphasized the necessity of adopting a prevention-based approach rather than focusing solely on treatment in the modern healthcare landscape. Speakers identified lifestyle-related diseases and mental stress as the primary drivers of current health challenges. Dr. Ramavtar Sharma suggested that functional productivity and vitality could be improved by integrating small self-care modules, such as yoga, posture correction, and eye-breaks, into the daily office routine.
Discussing the topic 'Nature Pharmacy: Tradition, Science and Healing,' Dr. Ashish Kumar Tripathi explained the therapeutic potential of medicinal plants. He detailed the scientific utility of daily wellness protocols (Dinacharya) and seasonal adaptations (Ritucharya) for balancing metabolic health and strengthening the immune system. At the conclusion of the event, Ministry officials discussed with the experts how these preventive strategies could be effectively implemented within urban administrative frameworks.
