Amit Shah Attends Mata Amritanandamayi's 73rd Birthday Celebrations in Kollam, Praises Selfless Service

Union Home and Cooperation Minister Shri Amit Shah attended the 73rd birthday celebrations of Mata Amritanandamayi in Kollam, Kerala, today as the chief guest. During the 'Vishwa Seva Dinam' organized on this occasion, he praised the service work carried out by Mata Amritanandamayi over the past five decades.

In his address, Shri Amit Shah stated that Mata Amritanandamayi has made wiping the tears of the suffering her spiritual practice and duty. He remarked that while systems manage society, compassion works to unite it, describing Amma as the embodiment of compassion. The Home Minister noted that Amma, born on September 27, 1953, into an underprivileged family in Parayakadavu village of Kollam district, has shown the path to liberation for millions by removing sorrow and depression from their lives.

Dividing Amma's life into three components—emotion, action, and compassion—Shri Amit Shah said that she has institutionalized her spirit of service, transforming it into a global campaign. He mentioned that during the 2001 Gujarat earthquake, Amma settled an entire village by building 1,200 houses, which is known today as 'Amma's Village.' Facilities such as a town hall, hospital, and education centers were provided in this village.

Detailing other service initiatives, the Home Minister stated that 86 Amrita schools are operating across the country. Additionally, she has carried out over 1 million tree plantations and worked toward making 101 villages self-reliant. He emphasized that during crises such as the Gujarat earthquake, tsunamis, the Uttarakhand disaster, the Wayanad landslides, and the COVID-19 pandemic, Amma and her followers set an outstanding example of service.

Shri Shah further informed that Mata Amritanandamayi has delivered messages of Hindutva and service on platforms such as the United Nations Millennium World Peace Summit and the World Parliament of Religions. When India held the presidency of the G-20, she presided over the Civil-20 (C-20). Furthermore, she has extended her blessings to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Nashamukt Bharat' (Drug-Free India) campaign.
