Indian Parliamentary Delegation Departs for 153rd IPU Assembly in Tanzania
Led by Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Mr. Harivansh, an Indian parliamentary delegation will participate in the 153rd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Arusha, Tanzania.

New Delhi, October 3, 2026: An Indian parliamentary delegation, led by the Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, Mr. Harivansh, has departed to participate in the 153rd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and related meetings to be held in Arusha, United Republic of Tanzania. The event is scheduled to take place from October 5 to 9, 2026.
The theme for this year's IPU Assembly is "Enhancing Good Governance and Empowering Communities through Inclusivity, Trust, and Opportunities for All," which will serve as the primary focus for discussions among parliamentarians from around the world.
The Indian delegation consists of Mr. Harivansh as the leader, along with Lok Sabha MPs Mr. Anurag Singh Thakur, Mrs. Aparajita Sarangi, Dr. Sanjay Jaiswal, Mrs. Kamaljeet Sahrawat, Dr. Lata Vankhede, Mrs. Bijuli Kalita Medhi, and Mr. N. K. Premachandran, as well as Rajya Sabha MP Dr. Sasmit Patra.
The delegation will present India's perspective on issues of global significance through various panel discussions, workshops, and meetings. Mr. Harivansh will specifically participate in the Governing Council, general discussions, deliberations on emergency topics, and dialogue sessions with candidates for the presidency of the IPU.
Additionally, members of the delegation will take part in discussions on critical topics such as democracy and human rights, international security, peace, sustainable development, women's participation, science and technology, combating terrorism, health, mental health, critical minerals, Artificial Intelligence (AI), the future workforce, maritime security, climate change, and the conservation of mountain and ocean ecosystems.
This participation demonstrates India's commitment to parliamentary diplomacy, multilateral dialogue, and cooperation between parliaments on issues of global peace, development, and democracy, as well as its ongoing engagement with the IPU.
