Ministry of Road Transport and Highways to Launch 'Special Campaign 6.0' for National Highways and Toll Plaza Cleanliness

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways is set to conduct 'Special Campaign 6.0' from October 2 to October 31, 2026. The primary objective of this campaign is to improve the cleanliness and maintenance status of national highways and toll plazas. Additionally, the Ministry aims to reduce pending cases, strengthen record management, ensure the responsible disposal of e-waste, and maximize the utilization of office spaces within organizations under its administrative control.

The campaign will be completed in two phases. The first phase is the 'Preparatory Phase,' which will run from September 15 to September 30, 2026. During this period, targets will be identified and preparations will be made for the main campaign. The main campaign will begin on October 2, 2026, and will include activities such as cleanliness drives and the disposal of obsolete items.

Under Special Campaign 6.0, special emphasis will be placed on removing garbage from national highways in urban areas. Toilets at toll plazas and other locations will be renovated, and their regular cleaning and maintenance will be ensured. Furthermore, work will be undertaken for the painting of toll plazas, improving lighting, utilizing solar energy, installing road signs, enhancing the visibility of road markings, and making highways pothole-free.

The Ministry has identified a 50-kilometer stretch of national highway and one toll plaza that will receive special attention. Officers from the headquarters will be deployed to inspect these identified sections and assess the impact of the improvement measures. These officers will identify deficiencies, mark them geographically, and continuously monitor the rectification work.

For effective implementation, the Ministry has directed headquarters, regional offices, program implementation units, and field offices to make coordinated efforts. Nodal officers have been appointed for organizations under the administrative control of the Ministry, who will submit regular progress reports. The Joint Secretary (Coordination) has been nominated as the nodal officer for overall coordination. The progress of the campaign is being reviewed through weekly meetings conducted by the Joint Secretary and the Secretary of the Ministry.
