Project Cheetah: Female Cheetah Gives Birth to Five Cubs in Kuno National Park, Total Population Reaches 60
A female cheetah of Indian origin, KJP21, has given birth to five healthy cubs in Kuno National Park, bringing the total cheetah population in India to 60.

In a significant achievement under Project Cheetah, a 32-month-old female cheetah of Indian origin, KJP21, has given birth to five healthy cubs in Kuno National Park. Following the arrival of these cubs, the total population of cheetahs in India has increased to 60, of which 41 are of Indian origin.
Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Shri Bhupender Yadav, shared this information on the social media platform 'X'. He stated that after Mukhi and KGP12, KJP21 is the third female cheetah born in India to give birth to offspring. Shri Yadav described this development as a critical milestone toward the emergence of the next generation of cheetahs in India.
The Minister also clarified that the birth of these cubs symbolizes the beginning of the Botswana lineage in India, as their father is a male cheetah from Botswana. This development adds a new genetic lineage to India's growing cheetah population.
Shri Bhupender Yadav described this success as a new generation of cheetahs born on Indian soil, marking a new chapter in the story of cheetah reintroduction in India. He extended his heartfelt congratulations and praised the dedication and tireless efforts of all managers, veterinarians, and field staff associated with Project Cheetah.
