WorldSkills Shanghai 2026: NIFT Students Win Two Silver and One Medal for Excellence
Students from NIFT have brought honor to India by winning medals in Digital Interactive Media Design, Retail Sales, and Fashion Technology at the 48th WorldSkills competition held in Shanghai.
Students and experts from the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) have achieved significant milestones through an outstanding performance at the 48th WorldSkills competition held in Shanghai, China. During the global event, which took place from September 23 to 26, 2026, NIFT participants secured two silver medals and one Medal for Excellence.
NIFT represented India in four key skill areas: Digital Interactive Media Design, Retail Sales, Fashion Technology, and Visual Merchandising. According to the details of the achievements, Mr. Covid Ajay Gangrade from NIFT Mumbai won a silver medal in Digital Interactive Media Design, while Ms. Saniya Joshi from NIFT Panchkula won a silver medal in Retail Sales. Additionally, Ms. Vidhi Neeravkumar Suthar from NIFT Gandhinagar received a Medal for Excellence in the Fashion Technology category.
To achieve this success, Ms. Vidhi underwent four months of intensive training at NIFT New Delhi under the guidance of Indian expert Professor (Dr.) Monika Gupta and the training team. The program aimed to ensure technical proficiency, adherence to international standards, and optimized performance under competition conditions. Furthermore, Ms. Anuja Ajay Ware from NIFT Bengaluru represented India in the Visual Merchandising skill category.
WorldSkills Shanghai 2026 saw more than 1,400 young competitors from approximately 68 countries and regions participating across 64 categories. India sent its largest delegation to date, with 70 competitors across 63 categories. Overall, India secured 10th place in the competition, winning a total of 6 silver medals and 20 Medals for Excellence.
According to NIFT, participation in competitions like WorldSkills provides students with the opportunity to become familiar with global professional standards, emerging technologies, and international benchmarks. The institute has extended its congratulations to the students, trainers, officials, and the Ministry of Textiles for this success.
