DRI Seizes Foreign Gold Worth ₹12.37 Crore on India-Bangladesh Border, 4 Arrested
The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) recovered 8.3 kilograms of foreign gold during a covert operation in the Cooch Behar district.

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has conducted a significant operation on the India-Bangladesh border as part of its ongoing crackdown on organized gold smuggling. During this action, officials seized approximately 8.3 kilograms of foreign gold, with an estimated value of about ₹12.37 crore. Four individuals have been arrested in connection with the case.
According to reports, DRI officials had maintained strict surveillance on the India-Bangladesh border in the Cooch Behar district. On October 5, 2026, four suspicious individuals traveling on two motorcycles from the Chaudharyhat border toward Cooch Behar were intercepted. During the search, gold biscuits were recovered from their possession. Two of the individuals had specifically concealed the gold within specially designed cloth waistbelts.
A total of 72 gold biscuits were recovered during the search, each weighing 116 grams. The foreign gold was seized under the relevant provisions of the Customs Act 1962, and all four suspects were taken into custody.
The DRI stated that this success is the result of prolonged and vigilant monitoring along the border of the Cooch Behar district. The Directorate remains committed to dismantling cross-border smuggling networks and identifying the larger syndicates active behind this illegal trade. Further investigation into the matter is currently underway.
