Nagpur: Indora Chowk-Dighori Flyover Inaugurated, Travel Time Reduced from 1 Hour to 15 Minutes

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis inaugurated the approximately 8.9 kilometer long Indora Chowk-Dighori flyover, constructed on National Highway 353D, which connects the northern and southern parts of Nagpur city.

During the event, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari stated that the flyover was built using 'Ultra High Performance Fiber Reinforced Concrete' (UHPFRC) technology. The use of this technology allowed for longer spans between two consecutive pillars, reducing the number of supports and enabling the construction to be completed in record time. According to Mr. Gadkari, the commencement of this flyover will reduce the travel time between Indora and Dighori, which previously took about 1 hour, to just 10 to 15 minutes.

Constructed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) at a cost of approximately 1,000 crore rupees, the flyover connects five directions at Ashok Square. An Ashoka Pillar has been installed at the junction, complemented by murals related to the Constitution and attractive lighting arrangements. To facilitate traffic flow, ramps have been constructed at Daga Hospital, Reshimbagh Chowk, and Bara Tajbagh, which is expected to reduce traffic congestion in densely populated areas such as Gandhibagh and Pachpaoli. Additionally, an elevated passage has been built over the metro corridor at Agrasen Chowk.

Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced that, in honor of the centenary anniversary of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, the flyover will be named after its founder Sarsanghchalak, Dr. Keshav Baliram Hedgewar. He mentioned that several eco-friendly projects are underway to make Nagpur an international-standard city, including the construction of the 148-kilometer long 'Golden Arch Ring Road.' He further informed that there are currently 35 flyovers in the city, with another 15 proposed. Simultaneously, a 'New Nagpur' and a business district are being developed to create employment opportunities for the youth.

Nagpur's Guardian Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule stated that this project will also improve connectivity for rural areas such as Hudkeshwar, Narsala, Besa, and Pipla. During the inauguration ceremony, officials from NHAI and representatives of the project contractor, NCC Limited (Nagarjuna Construction Company), were honored. Several public representatives and citizens, including South Nagpur MLA Mohan Mate and Central Nagpur MLA Pravin Datke, were present on the occasion.
