Regulatory Framework for Satellite Communication Services is Fair and Non-Discriminatory, Says Ministry of Communications
The Government of India has clarified that the regulatory framework implemented for satellite communication services in the country is entirely fair and that allegations of discrimination are baseless.

The Ministry of Communications of the Government of India has refuted claims circulating on social media that described the regulatory framework for satellite communication services as discriminatory. The Ministry clarified that a fair and non-discriminatory regulatory framework has been implemented for all telecommunication services, including satellite communication services.
According to the Ministry, as part of its commitment to streamlining the provision of satellite communication services in India, three telecommunications licenses have been granted for satellite-based Global Mobile Personal Communication services via Non-Geostationary Satellite Orbit (NGSO) based satellite communications.
Under the terms of these licenses, it is mandatory for each licensee to comply with specified security conditions. The primary objective of this requirement is to ensure that the services provided meet various security standards designated for the protection of all users and their data.
The government stated that the security assessment process for all three licensees is currently underway. Once this process is completed for a licensed entity, it will be eligible to apply for spectrum allocation. The Ministry emphasized that since all three entities are currently at approximately the same regulatory stage, describing this framework or its application as unfair or discriminatory is baseless and misleading.
