Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) held its 54th Annual General Meeting (AGM) in hybrid mode on September 24, 2026, at the CSOI in New Delhi. During the meeting, the company's Chairman and Managing Director (CMD), Dr. A.K. Panda, shared detailed information regarding the performance of FY 2025-26 and future strategic priorities.
CMD Dr. Panda stated that despite fluctuations in the global steel market and geopolitical uncertainties, India has maintained its position as the world's fastest-growing steel producer. He noted that SAIL has set new benchmarks through technical upgrades, digitalization, financial prudence, and sustainability.
On the production front, the company reached its highest-ever production levels for crude steel, finished steel, and saleable steel. SAIL produced 10.7 million tonnes of value-added steel, which accounts for 56% of the total saleable steel, marking a 7% increase compared to FY 2024-25. Additionally, 28 new products were introduced for the infrastructure, manufacturing, energy, and automotive sectors.
Highlighting its role in nation-building, Dr. Panda mentioned that in FY 2025-26, the company dispatched the first consignment of indigenously developed Vande Bharat wheels. Furthermore, steel was supplied for five Indian Navy ships: INS Arnala, Udaygiri, Himgiri, Androth, and Anjadip.
Regarding financial performance, SAIL recorded its highest-ever turnover of over ₹1,09,000 crore in FY 2025-26, an 8% increase over the previous year. The company reduced its borrowings by more than ₹5,000 crore. With improved profitability, Profit Before Tax (PBT) increased by 44% and Profit After Tax (PAT) grew by 50.5%. The Board has recommended a final dividend of ₹2.35 per equity share.
Under environment and sustainability, 5.61 million units of green energy were generated from the 4 MW floating solar plant at the IISCO Steel Plant, while a 20 MW plant is under construction at the Bhilai Steel Plant. Solar projects totaling 278.5 MW are being considered across various plants.
Discussing future plans, Dr. Panda stated that SAIL aims to increase its crude steel capacity to approximately 35 million tonnes per year by FY 2030-31. This will be achieved through green capacity building, low-carbon technologies, digital enablement, and integration with the MSME ecosystem.
