Ministry of Coal to Launch 'Special Campaign 6' Focusing on E-Waste Disposal and Workplace Modernization
The Ministry of Coal will conduct Special Campaign 6 from October 2 to October 31, 2026, aiming to promote e-waste management, scrap disposal, and office digitalization.
The Ministry of Coal is set to lead 'Special Campaign 6' from October 2 to October 31, 2026. The primary objective of this month-long initiative is to ensure the systematic collection, segregation, and scientific disposal of e-waste across all administrative offices and Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) under the ministry.
Through this campaign, the ministry is reaffirming its commitment to environmental responsibility and realizing the national vision of 'Waste to Wealth.' The initiative will prioritize the modernization of workplaces, optimal utilization of office space, accelerating the pace of digitalization, and the disposal of scrap. These efforts aim to foster clean, sustainable, and citizen-centric governance while strengthening institutional mechanisms.
As part of the preparatory phase, DDG Mrs. Chetna Shukla, DS Mr. Robin Gangte, and other officials reviewed the record room at Lok Nayak Bhawan on September 23, 2026. During this review, files were systematically categorized and old or unnecessary records were identified for timely removal to ensure the productive use of vacant space.
Under this nationwide initiative, Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) organized a street play on e-waste management at its Nagpur headquarters on September 22, 2026. The event aimed to spread awareness regarding the responsible collection, recycling, and scientific disposal of e-waste.
The ministry is working alongside its Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs), CCO, and CMPFO to identify sites for the cleanliness drive. Simultaneously, work is underway to streamline record management and resolve pending references, complaints, and appeals.
According to progress reports as of September 24, 2026, the following targets have been identified for Special Campaign 6: - Sites marked for cleanliness: 1,462 - Total area to be vacated: 1.21 crore square feet - Volume of scrap for disposal: 10,713 metric tonnes - Physical files to be reviewed: 10,189 - E-files for review: 75,382
The preparatory phase will continue until September 30, 2026, and these figures are expected to increase further.
