Indian Railways Approves ₹142 Crore for Electric Traction System Upgrade on Savaliapuram-Guntur Section

Indian Railways has taken a significant decision to strengthen the power supply infrastructure on the Savaliapuram-Guntur section of the South Coast Railway. The railway has granted approval to upgrade the electric traction system from 1x25 kV to 2x25 kV across this 73-kilometer stretch. The total cost of the project is estimated at ₹142 crore.

The project will cover 146 kilometers of track, with the primary objective of reinforcing the electric traction infrastructure and increasing the capacity to handle growing railway activities. This upgrade of the electric traction system on the Savaliapuram-Guntur section is part of 'HUN Route 8,' which encompasses the Vasco-Gadag-Guntakal-Nandyal-Savaliapuram-Guntur-Vijayawada route.

According to the railway, the implementation of the advanced traction system will result in a more robust power supply arrangement for the operation of electric trains on this section. This will enable Indian Railways to meet future increasing traffic requirements more efficiently. Furthermore, the move will enhance the capacity and reliability of the critical HUN route, ensuring smoother train operations and strengthening the regional rail network.

This initiative is part of Indian Railways' ongoing efforts to modernize its traction infrastructure and expand network capacity to prepare the railway system for potential growth in traffic in the future.
